sarah & steve: skate park wedding

They'd first settled on the beach but then, two days before the wedding, Sarah said I wish we could just do it in the park and her imminent sisters-in-law leapt into action with permits and a heads-up to the RCMP detachment and you know what? It was the most delightful, comfortable, and perfectly fitting ceremony I've ever been to, as guest or as photographer. Steve travels all over North America building skate parks, concrete art. Sarah fundraises. And my kids, peering over my shoulder as I processed, now ponder what we call, in our house, the TAO OF STEVE. A newly-born set of guiding principles based on The Coolest Guy On The Planet. Ever. Including Han Solo And Buck 65. Everyone else pales to STEVE! You'll see why. (insert the swoon of a four-year-old.)

I get it, though. The blue shoes, the pale yellow crinoline, the marital motorcycle with sidecar, the perfectly boistrous best man, the incredible band and its endless trove of Stevie Wonder, the sweat on that dance floor. I was swooning too, and not just at Steve's tricks. It was a weepy, laughter-filled day that brimmed at every moment with these adorable two.

That photo of the flower girls might be one of my most favourite photos ever in the entire universe.

That is the coolest wedding - and possibly the most beautiful bride - I have ever seen.

Just looking at this photos with Rohan - he is narrating the day and how it all went down... "Ooh, my Auntie, and there is the motorbike and there is the flowergirls and - do you see me all sweaty?" Beautiful photos for a perfect day.

Ally, it was so much fun to be there with all of you. Sarah and Steve made it easy. Katherine, Rohan was a rock star. What a sweet, happily situated, fun-loving kid.

Leah, good luck!

Thanks all....

If I ever get married again, which is doubtful...I want it to look just like this, and I want you to shoot one perfect picture of it for me. Love!

I keep going through these photos over and over and each one tells a story of our special day! With photos like these who needs words? I love them x1000. I just got off the phone with Steve (he's back in Ontario) and he said "isnt it so random how we got Kate to do our photography?" and I agree because orginally we were not going to have a photographer, just gather up photos at the end of it all. I'm so glad we did'nt and so glad it wasn't just anyone. Kate your photography is special just like you, special, you're simple amazing! Thank you! One of the comments above nailed it "Lady of Light", so fitting.

That bride has the best vintage look - could be a beautiful extra on the set of Mad Men. Love the dress, the shoes: everything! Her groom is pretty cute too.

Fabulous pictures, Kate.

kate, you are doing something so extremely beautiful with your photography. i trust that all of these people know how blessed they are to have such a documentary.

(i hope you're well. i've not responded to your letter as things have changed so much but life continues in the best of ways.)
