fishcakes and bonfires and B.Y.O.M.

It’s official. Bon, Thordora, Hannah, Mad and I have teamed up to host an informal drink-too-much-wine-and-stay-up-all-night-talking-out-our-asses gathering, a.k.a. Maritime BlogHer—or Blog'er if yer local—want to join us?

march16-08.jpg

The invoking of the hallowed conference is entirely tongue-in-cheek—for expert panels, powerpoints, a hotel banquet and celebrity sightings, go to San Fransisco. For the best fish cakes in the entire universe—and maybe the odd bonfire or two—come to the village of Chester, Nova Scotia for the May 16-18 long weekend.

For transportation and B&B details, find us on Facebook (Maritime BlogHer ’08)—plans are still in the works. Drop me an email by the end of March if you’re keen, and we’ll help you get here. We’ve even got a few coming from as far as Toronto and New England—so don’t be shy, and bring your own marshmallows.

I'd love to, if I were able to travel then. I plan to still be pregnant and cooking this baby for a little while longer, so celebrate without me, but know that I am there in spirit. Maybe next year?

Fruity marshmallows. I like those better. :)

Ohhh! I want to go. I've always wanted to visit the Maritimes. Alas, I know it's not in the cards this year with new jobs and all. Can't wait to hear about it!

Could not find you on Facebook :(

Boo! I'm in Scotland (the old one, not the new one!) and it's a bit far to come for the weekend. You couldn't possible reschedule for the beginning of July when I'll heading over there on vacation? No? Oh well, just a thought. Have a great time anyway.

I think you should re-dub it Maritime Blog'er. ;-) Better yet, call it Atlantic Blog'er and invite my sister Newfoundlandhers.

In any case, have fun and scare the bejesus out of the yacht club brats !

Kyran, that is PERFECT! I'm stealing that. Off to make that universal edit. hee.

And if Mainers and Big Smokers are welcome, heck, it goes without saying we'd be thrilled to see a Newfie or two.

Hmmphh! I am holding my breath and stomping my feet until I can go too!!!Well, I will be mailing a cardboard cutout of myself to Maritime Blogher '08 to be included in all of the fun and girl talk!!! I would request that you feed the cutout red wine and donairs. Thank you.;)

Knowing it will be in beautiful Chester just makes it more painful that I won't be able to make it this May. But I'm hoping it will become an annual thing.

xo

I'm technically not a maritimer, so everyone can come.

And can someone bring some screech. Please!
March 17, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterthordora
Donairs? Check.

Screech? Betcha I can get my hands on some.

Blog'er? Bloody brilliant. Hereby move to change the name immediately.

If I can't come, promise you will post many, many embarrassing photos. The more risque, the better. Preferably involving fish. There's some funny there.
March 17, 2008 | Unregistered Commentertash
Well, I've been called an honourary Maritimer before, if that counts for anything. Won't be Easterly until July this year, however. Marshmallows, drinking and woodstoves?? That is SO MY THING. Damn.

If I could make it from Istanbul, I'd be there. Can't wait to read about it!

It's been years, but I do miss Nova Scotia....

Hi! I just read every entry from the birth of your boys to today. Remembering the reader-from-Plano-Texas post, I decided not to remain totally anonymous. This is a reader from North Carolina, who just spent an entire work day glued to your blog instead of doing anything else. I was linked here from The New Girl, who I also enjoy. While at work. Oh dear. I do work most days.

I have been captivated, not just by your story but by your eloquence. Your writing is beautiful and bittersweet and, oh, gush gush gush etc. etc. I'll continue to check back in on you and your two (three) boys. I will birth my own boy in just a few weeks, my first. I hope he's as pretty and munchable as your boys turned out to be. Thank you for sharing -

Gillian

PS BlogHer sounds like fun! I am looking forward to reading about it.

Hi Gillian, thanks so much for saying hello, and for the kind words, and congrats on your pregnancy. I've yet to meet an unmunchable baby, so I'm sure you're in for some major cute. :)

What a great idea! Good for you for planning it rather than talking about it for years which is what I seem to do in terms of "girl trips." I would love to join ya'll but am pretty much a single mom now with David's new job. Have a glass of wine for me. I can't wait to read about it.

Much love,ashley

Oh, that's where my husband is from! I would love to come, but, alas, money keeps me back. Please take lots of pictures so some of us can live vicariously.

Oh, wow, if I weren't, like, set to give birth 'round about that weekend, I'd TOTALLY be tempted...

Oh how I would LOVE to join you! Maybe another year? Edmonton is just too far away right now...
March 19, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterm
